How to draw a simple butterfly step by step

Please see the drawing tutorial in the video below

  HTDraw

You can refer to the simple step-by-step drawing guide below

Step 1

So draw a circle for the head, an oval for the chest and long belly. To draw wings, outline three instructions on each side. Don’t forget that the lines in this step should be very light.

Step 2

Using the instructions from the previous step, carefully draw our butterfly’s wings. By the way, don’t forget that the outline of the wings should be identical, but of course reflected.

Step 3

Erase all the excess and unnecessary lines and precisely draw the contours on the butterfly’s body. Note that the butterfly’s eyes should be round and large.

Step 4

Here we will need to draw patterns on the wings. It is not necessary to do the patterns in the example below, you can draw any pattern you want. The main rule – the patterns on the wings must be copied.

Stpe 5

Here we continue to draw spots on the wings. We decided to add small circular and oval patterns near the edges of the wings. But again, the pattern on the wings can be of any shape (for example, on the wings of butterflies you can usually see with the naked eye).

Step 6

Now paint the wings with hatching and paint solid black. Add the shadow also by hatching and our glorious butterfly drawing is ready. We usually create our drawings with pencil and leave them in black and white, but you can color your butterfly with different colors of the rainbow.

This is the second lesson on how to draw a butterfly on our website. We improved the drawing, added some colors and shadows, and in general made the lesson a bit more difficult. If the old one is for beginner artists, then this one is better for those who have done well already. Of course, there are many species of butterflies on planet Earth, with different types of wings and bodies. But the advantage of our lesson is that with its help you can draw absolutely any type of butterfly.
