Fly Drawing Step by Step
Step 1. Draw the Head of the Fly
Start by drawing the head of the fly. Use a series of curved lines to outline the shape of the head. Note the almost flat base of the head and the two rounded protrusions at the front of the head. For each eye, enclose a small oval inside a larger oval. Draw two curved lines extending upward from the front of the head, forming antennae.
Step 2. Draw the Middle of the Fly
Extend a curved line from each side of the fly’s head. Let these lines meet at a sharp point, enclosing the thorax, or middle, of the fly. Add lines to show the details on the middle of the fly.
Step 3. Draw the Belly
Use a curved line to enclose the curved shape, following the curve of the pointed end of the thorax. Then, use a long curved line to enclose the rounded shape of the abdomen.
Step 4. Draw the Legs
Flies typically have 6 legs, 4 in the front and two longer legs in the back. Just below the neck, extend two curved lines.
The four front legs should be drawn with these lines almost parallel and connected at the base. Notice how the lines curve twice, forming segments at the legs. Let the lines meet at a sharp point. Create a pattern for the legs with short lines and repeat this process to form a mirror image on the opposite side.
Draw the back legs of the fly. For each leg, extend a pair of curved lines from below the wing. Let the lines connect at a sharp point and repeat on the opposite side to form a mirror image.
Step 5. Add a pattern for the abdomen
The abdomen of a fly often has many joints, so we draw curves that divide the abdomen into sections.
Step 6. Draw the wings
Draw the wings of the fly. Extend a long curve from the thorax. Fold the line back over itself to attach to the abdomen. Draw the other wing. Start by extending the line from the thorax. Again, fold the line back over itself and connect it to the abdomen. Add skeletal veins to the fly’s wings to make sure they are stiff enough to fly.
Step 7. Coloring
Color the fly. House flies are usually black, but flies come in a variety of colors. For example, some are green or metallic blue.
