You can refer to the simple step-by-step drawing guide below

Step 1

In the first step of the tutorial on how to draw dragon wings, we will start with the edges of the wings on the left side. To draw this part of the wing you will use some sharp curved lines that join together.

The wings will point up vertically, as shown in the reference image. The wings will be attached to a much thinner section with a bit of roundness at the end where it will connect to the dragon’s body.

You will also draw a small curved spike into the center overhang of the wing. Once you’re happy with the look and feel, you’re ready for the second step!

Step 2 – Mirror what you did in the previous step

This second part of your dragon wing drawing will essentially mirror what you did in the previous step.

To do this, just copy everything you did in step 1 except the other way around. That’s all in this section and you’re ready to go!

Step 3 – Now you can draw the outer edge of the first wing

Now that you have drawn the inner edges of the wings, you can start drawing the outer edges in this step of our dragon wing tutorial.

To do this, you will use some longer curved lines to make the edges soft and leathery.

Once you’re done, there will be three points on the outer edge of this wing. That will complete the outline of the left wing and we will add some more details to it soon.

Step 4 – Next, mirror the previous step

This step of your dragon wing drawing will be another step where you mirror what you did in the previous step.

This time, this part will complete the outer edge of the wing on the right hand side.

That means it will also have three points on it like the first did. Then, once both sketches are complete, you’ll add some final details in the next step.

Step 5 – Now you can complete the final details

Your painting looks great already, but before we start adding some amazing colors to it, we have a few final details to add in this step of the dragon wing tutorial.

The main element of this step will be to draw some thin lines inside the wing to create the skeletal structure of the wing. You can monitor reference images to make sure the bone structure you are looking for is correct.

That should do the trick for the final details of this tutorial, but before you move on, you might as well add some of your own!

You can add some slashes and other lines all over the wing for some textured leather detailing for an idea.

Maybe you can give these dragon wings some history by drawing some arrows crashing into them!
If you’re feeling very creative, you can even paint the dragon’s head and body on the wings.

You can search some dragon images on the internet for inspiration if you want to give this a try.
These are just a few ideas you can try, but what else can you think of to complete this image?

Step 6 – Finish your dragon wing drawing with some colors

This final step of your dragon wing drawing will be to add some amazing colors to it! Color can really help complete a painting in a unique way, so this is the step where you should really express yourself with some great color!

For our example image, we used some red and yellow to color the dragon’s wings, but feel free to use any color you want for it!

Once you know how you want to color, you can also experiment with some awesome art mediums!

Whether you use acrylic paints, watercolors or something like crayons, we know you’ll have an incredible picture.
