How to Draw a Medieval Castle

Step 1. First Sample Watchtower

First, draw the long, thin walls of the watchtower.

Step 2. Add battlements and roof

Next, shape the battlements on the top and near the middle of the watchtower. Then add the pointed roofs of the towers. Make sure to delete the parts of the wall that overlap the battlements.

Step 3. Flag

Add a flag on the roof by drawing a vertical line with a triangle attached.

Step 4. Shape the main wall

Form the main wall of the castle by drawing two horizontal lines. Then, draw battlements on the wall as shown.

Step 5. Draw the Keep

First, draw two vertical lines to form the walls of the sanctuary. Next, attach the battlements to the watchtower. Then, stick the triangular banners on the castle walls.

Step 6. Add a small tower

Add a small tower on top of the watchtower by first drawing two vertical lines. Then add the triangular roof of the tower.

Step 7. Form the Gate

Draw the arched outline of the castle gate. Then, create evenly spaced vertical lines to add texture to the gates.

Step 8. Sketch Windows

Draw the arched outline of the windows.

Step 9. Complete the medieval castle drawing

Let’s add some color to our drawing of a medieval castle! First, color the roof and flag with a red pencil. Next, color the windows with a dark blue pencil. Now, color the battlements with a dark gray pencil. Then, use an orange pencil to shade the castle gate. Use red and orange pencils to color the banners on the walls of the fortress. Finally, color the rest of the castle wall gray.
