Step 1
Make a circle of the right size for the head, then outline according to the facial guidelines. You will also need to draw the neck line.
Step 2
Using the facial guides, start drawing the dragon’s snout and this will include the serrated lining for the teeth.
Step 3
Now we will draw the rest of the jawbone structure and the chin is angled and V-shaped. Once that’s done, draw the sharp lines behind the jaw along with the small horn.
Step 4
Complete the head shape by drawing the back of the head and filling the head with rows of small spikes. Draw the horn at a larger scale, then you can continue to step five.
Step 5
Finish drawing Smaug’s face by drawing the eyes carefully. You should draw your eyebrows, then draw the eyeballs. Add domed nostrils, add details to the cheeks. Finish things off on the face by adding a gum line to the teeth.
Step 6
Finally, draw the shape of Smaug’s neck and as you can see it is long and curved. Clear errors and instructions before you consider this drawing complete.
