Rib Cage Drawing Step by Step Tutorial

Step 1: Draw the Vertebral Column

Start by drawing the vertebral column in the center of the page. Sketch the individual vertebrae as a series of connected bones, as shown in the illustration.

Step 2: Draw the Ribs on the Right Side

Begin drawing the ribs on the right side of the picture. Sketch the curved bones extending from the vertebral column toward the front of the rib cage, forming the basic structure of the chest.

Step 3: Add More Ribs

Continue adding the ribs, following the curved shape and spacing shown in the illustration. Make each rib gradually shorter toward the lower part of the rib cage.

Step 4: Draw the Floating Ribs

Add the floating ribs at the lower part of the rib cage. These ribs are shorter and do not connect to the sternum at the front.

Step 5: Complete the Left Side

Draw the ribs on the left side in the same way as the right side. Complete the rib cage by connecting the ribs to the vertebral column and adding the central sternum.

Step 6: Add the Labels

Finally, add labels to identify the main parts of the rib cage, including the true ribs, sternum, ribs, vertebral column, and floating ribs. Your rib cage anatomy drawing is now complete.
