Step 1
We will start this tutorial on how to draw a poodle by drawing the outline of the dog’s fluffy head and chest.
The styling of this poodle will make it look like the head and chest are a big part of the dog. To draw this soft outline, we will use a very bumpy line to give it a soft texture.
The head will be slightly smaller, while the chest will be slightly larger and wider. Then you can also draw the poodle’s thin muzzle on the left side.
Remember to leave a small gap at the base, as this is where the legs will stick out in the next step.
Step 2 – Now add the first leg and some details on the face
This part of your poodle drawing will see you fill in the gap we left in the lower part of the body in the previous section. To do this, use some smooth lines for the upper part of the front leg.
Then we’ll draw the round, fluffy pins of the pins. To do this, use a similar bumpy line to create the cotton shapes as they appear in our reference image.
Then draw some little paws underneath these shapes, and then finish by drawing some lines around the face.
Step 3 – Next, draw the ears and hind legs
We’ll be adding quite a bit to this picture in the third step of our how to draw a poodle tutorial. First, draw a small eye on the dog’s face area.
Then we will use a curved line for the ears to hang down. This ear will have a small base, and then will become wider when folded down.
They will also be drawn with a slightly rough line to make them look like feathers.
Then we’ll draw the poodle’s hind legs. Like the forelimbs, they will start with some fine lines and then have tufts of hair above the small paws.
Then we can move on to the next step where we will finish the outline.
Step 4 – Now draw the tail and some other tufts
As mentioned in the previous step of this poodle, we will perfect the outline of the dog before moving on to some final details in the next step.
The tail will have a small, smooth base and will then have a fluffy tuft of feathers at its end.
After this tail is drawn as shown in our reference image, we will then draw some round tufts of fur on the poodle’s back.
That will complete the outline for this poodle and in the next step we can perfect it by drawing some smaller details and final strokes.
Step 5 – Add the final details to your poodle drawing
This fifth step of our tutorial on how to draw a poodle will help you finish drawing some final little details.
They will mainly focus on areas of the poodle where the fluff is present. These details will be small and curved to make these areas look softer and more textured.
Once you’ve added these smaller details, you can also have fun adding your own details and ideas!
