Dam Scenery Drawing Step by Step Tutorial
Step 1: Sketch the Top of the Dam
First, draw two long curved lines to outline the top edge of the dam. Keep the lines slightly curved and parallel to each other, as shown in the illustration.
Step 2: Draw the Dam Abutments
Next, sketch the large rocky structures supporting both sides of the dam. These are called the dam abutments. Use irregular, curved lines to give the rocks a natural shape.
Step 3: Create the Dam Structure
Draw a curved horizontal line near the bottom to outline the lower part of the dam. Then, add several short vertical lines across the dam surface to create simple texture and details.
Step 4: Draw the Reservoir Shoreline, Rocks, and Horizon
Now, draw the rocky shoreline behind the dam to surround the reservoir. Add a horizontal line to create the horizon. Then, use short, irregular strokes along the dam abutments and shoreline to give the rocks a rough, uneven appearance.
Step 5: Sketch the Reservoir and Background Mountains
Add short lines across the reservoir to suggest the surface of the water. Then, draw distant rocky hills and mountains in the background to complete the landscape.
Step 6: Color the Dam Scenery
Finally, add color to your drawing. Start by coloring the dam abutments and the rocky shoreline brown. Use bright blue for the reservoir water. Then, color the main dam structure gray. Add cream to the upper surfaces of the dam for additional shading. Color the distant landscape light orange, and finish the background with a light blue sky.
Your dam scenery drawing is now complete! You can experiment with different colors and add more details to make your landscape unique.
