Step 1

The building that we will draw in this how to draw a house tutorial will be small, quaint and full of charm! The roof will be pointed and sloping, it will have a charming thatched roof.

First, draw a very thin horizontal shape for the top part of the house. Then we’ll use a series of slight curves going down from this top section.

These will extend a little more outward with each line, as this will make the roof wider as you lower it.

As shown in the reference image, there will be some small space left between these lines, as this will be where we will add some link beams later.

With these lines drawn, you’ll be ready for the second step of the tutorial!

Step 2 – Now draw some smaller details for the roof of the house

With the outlines for the roof of this house drawing done now, we can now start drawing some finer details.

First, we will draw the binding structures we mentioned in the previous step. They can be drawn using some horizontal lines to fill in the remaining gaps in the roof contour.

You can also draw a small window with a pointed tip into the roof.

For the bottom edge of the roof, we’ll use some more jagged lines to create the rustic look we’re aiming for. Then move on to step 3 of the tutorial!

Step 3 – Draw some structural details for the roof

Now you can paint some finer textured details for the roof in this third step of the how to draw a house tutorial.

First, draw a small small chimney on the left side of the roof. This can be drawn using some slight curves with a small rim at the top.

Then we’ll draw lots of slight curves going down the thatched sections of the roof for some more texture.

Step 4 – Next, start drawing the walls of the house

The roof of this house drawing is now complete, and from this step onwards we will work with the lower parts of this cute house.

We’re going to intentionally create a coarser, more rustic look for the cottage design, so don’t worry too much about achieving those perfectly straight lines!

First, draw a small lantern hanging down from the left edge of the roof. It will then have a small, zigzag door underneath it.

Then, draw a small square on the right wall of the house, and then add some lines down and through the inside of the window.

The next part will be drawing the walls and they will also be drawn with some slightly jagged lines.

We’ll add some small rectangular brick shapes all over the walls, and then you can start drawing a small path leading to the front door.

Then you’re ready for some final touches in the next step!

Step 5 – Add the final details to your house drawing

We’re almost to the final step of this little house drawing tutorial, but first, we have a few final details to add before we get to that point.

These details will mainly be contained in the various environmental elements around the house.

You can draw a small fence using some thin connected shapes, then draw some grass detail around the house.

Finally, draw some trees behind the house to complete it.

This is all about creating the perfect getaway for your very own cottage, so you can also add any extra elements you want to really create your own special home. !
