One of the deer’s most recognizable features is its antlers, so it’s fitting that we start with that in the first step of this guide!
The antlers will be drawn using some curved lines that have some rounded branches extending out from them.
These can be surprisingly difficult to draw, so take your time and keep a close eye on reference images!
Then draw some circles for the top of the head, add a little tuft of fur and you’re ready for step 2!
Step 2 – Next, draw the eyes
For the second step of the tutorial on how to draw a cartoon deer, we will add eyes and some facial features.
The eyes are drawn in a number of small black circles with small white flashes in them. Then we will draw a curved oval around each one and add some small eyelashes.
Finish with a more rounded shape around each eye and then draw some arched brows.
Step 3 – Now draw the rest of the head
We are ready to perfect the head and face of your cartoon deer drawing in this third step.
First, draw a rounded triangle for the nose, then use some more curved lines for the smiley mouth below it. We will also add some rounded shapes to the cheeks of the face.
The ears will be quite large on either side of the head, and each ear will have a rounded tip at the end. Finish with the inner ear shape of each, and then we can move on.
Step 4 – Next, draw chest and legs
Keep moving to the bottom, now we’re going to add the body and leg warm-up.
For now, we will focus on the neck and chest, and these aspects will be drawn using some curved lines going down from the base of the head.
Then you can draw the front leg first. It will be quite short and thin, and it will end in a horseshoe shape with two small tips at the end.
Step 5 – Now, draw another front leg
So far, you’ve drawn one front leg and now you can draw another!
This pin will look very similar to the first one, with the only difference being that there will be some circles at the top. Finally, add another circle for the belly before moving on to step 6.
Step 6 – Add Rear Legs
In this step of our tutorial on how to draw a cartoon deer, we will draw the following legs.
They will lie under the belly and look similar to the front legs, they will bend inward on the upper part of each leg.
Once you have these legs like in our example, you can paint some final details in the next step!
Step 7 – Next, complete the last elements of this animated deer
Time to finish sketching this cartoon deer drawing before the final step of the tutorial! As promised in the previous step, this section will help you perfect the back and tail.
First, use a curved and rounded line for the back of this deer. Then we’ll add some horizontal ovals to the back to add some texture.
Finally, we will draw the deer’s fluffy tail. This will be drawn using a combination of rounded and pointed lines, and it completes it nicely!
After they are drawn, you can create a nice background or add some extra details to enjoy. There are so many ways to do that, and if you did, what kind of background would you choose for it?
Step 8 – Now finish it with some color
This is the last step of this tutorial on how to draw a cartoon deer, and in it we’re going to relax with some coloring fun!
In our reference image, we have shown you a set of colors that you can use for this deer. We keep the colors intact and take inspiration from actual colors.
That means we mostly relied on some browns and tans for the coat, and it looks really great!
Do you think you will use the same colors, or will you take a different approach? By changing the colors, you can really make your own twist on the composition, so let your creativity run wild!
