You can refer to the simple step-by-step drawing guide below
Step 1
We’ll pretty much create your own cartoon squirrel drawing in the first step of this tutorial! It might seem overwhelming, but we’ll take it slow to make sure you don’t get lost.
You will see in the following steps of the tutorial that the squirrel’s head is split into two parts and we will draw the bottom part now.
This will be drawn with some curves that have pointed tips machined into them to make the part look wider.
Then we’ll draw the squirrel’s arm, which will be long and thin with some rounded fingers at the end. This hand will be holding something later, but we’ll get there soon!
At that time, the body will also be quite round, the legs and chest have some pointed parts that make them hairy. Add some big flat feet to the base, and then we can move on!
Step 2 – Now draw the top of the head
You drew the lower half of the face in the previous step of our how to draw a cartoon squirrel tutorial and in this part we will draw the top half.
You can start by drawing two large oval eyes connected together. Then there will be curves above for the eyebrows.
Next, we will add two rounded ears on top of the head outline. Finally, finish by drawing a small angled nose on the lower part of the head.
Step 3 – Next, draw the tail and flowers
Squirrels love fruit, everyone knows this and that’s why we’re giving one to this squirrel! The acorn fruit has a round cap on top and you can add a small round stem on top.
The bottom half will be drawn with another curved line with a pointed top.
Then we’ll add the squirrel’s tail. A squirrel’s tail is usually very large compared to the rest of its body and that’s true here!
Like the other parts of the squirrel, the tail will be drawn using a combination of curved and rounded lines with pointed tips to make it look nice and furry.
Step 4 – Now draw some details on the tail and flowers
Now it’s time to add some smaller details to the tail and horns of this squirrel cartoon. We’ll start with the acorn.
For the lid of the acorn, we’ll draw many smaller curves that connect to each other to give it a miniature look.
Then for the bottom half we’ll add a bunch of simple, slightly curved lines to give it some texture. To finish this step, we will draw a part to the tail.
Then you’ll be ready for some final details and elements in the next step of the tutorial!
Step 5 – Add the final details to your drawing
This step of our how to draw a cartoon squirrel tutorial will focus on adding some details and final elements to get you ready for the final step of the tutorial.
These last details will focus mainly on the squirrel’s face, and we’ll start with simple. For the eyes, we’ll add a large dot inside each dot for the pupil.
Then we add some curves going down from the nose for the smiling and open mouth. For a final detail, we’ve added the square ring that squirrels usually have!
Once you’ve added these last details, you can end up with some of your own! You could paint the background or even add another squirrel friend to get some ideas, but what can you think of?
Step 6 – Finalize your drawing with color
Now you are ready to complete this painting with some color and this is where you can really take over and show what you can do!
We’ve already shown you the colors we’ll choose for this image in our example image, but they’re just a suggestion.
You can go for browns and beiges similar to the ones we used, but you should definitely feel free to choose any other color you might like.
