Step 1
To start this tutorial on how to draw the Earth, we will start with a circle for the outline of the Earth.
If you can get this outline as a perfect circle, that would definitely be the best! There are several ways you can draw a perfect circle, and the best way is to use something like a drawing compass.
This tool can be used with your pen or pencil to easily draw a perfect circle.
If you don’t have a compass, you can always use a flat, round object to trace around.
Once you’ve drawn the outline, you’re ready for step 2!
Step 2 – Draw the first continent on your Earth drawing
Now that you have the outline of your Earth drawing, you can start drawing the continents. The first continent we start on will be North America on the left side of the Earth.
For this step, I recommend using a pencil first and then rewriting it when you’re happy with it.
You should also follow the reference image carefully to get the shape of the continent as you like.
Step 3 – Now draw the next continent
We will continue to add some more continents in the next few steps of this tutorial on how to draw the earth.
For this part, we will draw the leftmost side of the UK and Europe. Due to the angle of the Earth, we will only be able to see a very small part of it.
As with the other parts of this tutorial, you can definitely try drawing with a pencil at first if this part is difficult!
Step 4 – Next, draw Africa in this step
It’s time to go to the coast of Africa to make this step in your drawing of the Earth! Again, due to the angle of the Earth in this figure, we will only be able to see a small portion of the continent.
That at least makes it a little easier to draw it! After you’ve drawn a bit of Africa, we’re ready for the final continent in the next step.
Step 5 – Now you can add the last continent
This earth drawing tutorial wouldn’t be complete without South America, so add it now!
The continent will be directly below North America from step 2, and they should be so close that it looks like they’re almost touching.
With that, all the continents are drawn and you are ready for the final step! Before proceeding, you can also add some details of your own and change the composition of the image to personalize it.
Some ideas that you can do is draw a space background behind the Earth. Maybe you can do it and also have an alien spaceship hovering over Earth!
Another idea is to draw a map shape around the Earth to make it look like an old map.

Step 6 – Complete your Earth drawing with some colors
You’ve reached the final step of your Earth drawing and now comes the fun part of completing your awesome drawing with some pretty colors!
This is a step where you can really get creative with it as you pick the colors you want.
We went with a pretty cool blue and green color scheme, but there are tons of other options you can go with too!
One idea you could do is to give each continent its own color scheme. You can even keep the colors themed for each continent!
Another thing you can do is look at photos of each continent and then try to realistically color them depending on how they look in real life.
Once you know what colors you want to use, you can also have fun using different art media! A fun idea is to mix the mediums while you color.
For example, you can use watercolors for ocean areas while using crayons for continents. You can even use a thin layer of white watercolor over certain points to show cloud coverage.
