How to Draw A Cartoon Nurse

You can refer to the simple step-by-step drawing guide below

Step 1

We mentioned in the intro of this tutorial how to draw a cartoon nurse that we have a really cute portrait of a nurse for you to draw, and you’ll see that when we draw!

For now, we’ll keep things simple, as we’ll draw the start of her ensemble.

The style we’re aiming for in this tutorial is that she has a really big head with a petite body, so that’s worth keeping in mind as we go along.

The sleeves will be quite small and the bottom of the dress will curve outwards. We’ll also leave some gaps in the collar and left side of her dress, but we’ll be filling those gaps soon!

Step 2 – Next, start contouring her head and arms

There are two blanks left in the previous step, but we’ll fill them in now! For the lower part of the face, we will use a curved line with some space for the top half.

Then we will extend a rather short and thin arm from the left sleeve that will bend down to touch her hip.

That’s all there is to this step and then we can move on!

Step 3 – Now, start drawing her hair

The nurse we’re drawing has a pretty big hairstyle, and we’ll start drawing it in this third step.

The outline of the hairstyle will be drawn using some curved lines that wrap around the head and also extend inside.

Then we’ll add some texture to the hair by adding more curve detail inside the contour. Be sure to leave another space on the top of her head, as we’ll be adding a hat to it soon!

Step 4 – Next, draw her hat and clipboard

Nurses have a lot to keep track of, so you’ll often see them by their trusty clipboard! We will give this nurse her clipboard in the next step.

First, let’s add her hat that we left a precious space in. The hat has a curved design with a rounded top.

It will fill the remaining space on her head nicely, and then we can draw the clipboard. It has a bent rectangle shape, and it will be held in her right arm.

Step 5 – Now draw some facial features

For our step on how to draw a cartoon nurse we will add some facial features to her!

For her eyes, we’ll use some ovals that have curves at their base.

Her inner eye detail will be drawn as a circle with dots inside, and we will also draw some small curled eyelashes at the bottom of the eye.

Finally, the final details to add will be some eyebrows above her eyes and simple curves for her nose and smiley mouth.

Step 6 – Next, draw some legs for the nurse

This cartoon nurse drawing already looks great! However, she needs some pins before we add some final touches, so let’s add them now!

Her legs will be in proportion to her body, so this means they will be relatively short and skinny.

Then you can add some shoes at the bottom of her feet. The one on the left will point to the left while the other will point straight ahead.

Once these legs are drawn, we will be able to add some final details in the next step!

Step 7 – Next, draw some final details

You’re ready to add some final touches in this step! Then we can actually finish it off with some color. First, we’ll draw a cross on her hat as the first of these.

Then draw some buttons on her uniform and finish by adding some thin and small rectangular pockets.

Once these last little details are there, you can also paint some more of your own! For an idea, you could paint a fun hospital themed background for her to stay in.

What other details and settings can you think of?

Step 8 – Now finish it with some color

For the last step of the tutorial, we’ll finish by adding some color to your piece.

We’ve kept the colors a bit more conservative in our example image, as nurses don’t usually dress in flashy, flashy colors.

The crosses on her hat are red with some lovely blues for her eyes, and they add some great splashes of color.

Will you use colors that are similar to the one we chose, or will you use a unique palette instead? Let your creativity flow as you complete this amazing drawing!
