Step 1
We will be drawing the roof and chimney in this first step of the how to draw a gingerbread house tutorial.
We’ll be creating a snow-covered look for this gingerbread house, and we’ll reflect that with the lines we’ll use for the drawing.
For the roof, you will draw a pointed arch shape. This shape will have a smooth line for its top, but underneath you’ll use more circles to create the appearance of snow underneath it.
You can then draw two lines coming from the roof’s right slope, and then we’ll draw the snow top of the chimney using some more curves.
That should do the trick for this first step, and we’ll keep adding to the house as we go.
Step 2 – Next, start drawing some decorations for the gingerbread house
This drawing of your gingerbread house will be filled with some nice festive details and designs. We’ll start adding them in this second step.
First, draw a row of small circles to the outline of the roof that you drew in the previous step. This will make it look like there’s a row of small candies stuck to the roof.
Then draw some circles on the top lines of the roof so that more candy sticks out of the roof. Then we’ll draw a pretty star on top of the roof, and it will be attached to two small lines.
Finally, we will sharpen this image by drawing some wavy smoke from the chimney.
Step 3 – Now, keep adding some candy decorations
Your house already has a lot of delicious candies, but you can never have too much candy!
For that reason, we will add some more information in the next step of our how to draw a gingerbread house tutorial.
First, start by drawing a large circle below the top of the roof. It will then have some swirls inside it and some little shapes on the side to make it look like candy in wrappers. Then we’ll draw some wavy lines underneath and add some small circles along them.
This step will then be completed with some candy canes to support the house. You can draw these with some straight lines with curved lines going along it for that signature candy cane pattern.
Step 4 – Next, draw some windows for the house
Continuing with your gingerbread house drawing, we will now add some windows to it in this step.
You can create these windows by drawing two slightly rounded squares with four smaller squares in each window.
Then there will be some rectangles below the window with lots of candy cane motifs decorating them.
Finally, we’ll end up with some small circles above the window. Then you’re ready for some final details in the next step!
Step 5 – Now you can complete the details of your gingerbread house
Before you color your drawing, we have some final details to add to this fifth part of our how to draw a gingerbread house tutorial.
First, you can use a rounded line for the door of the house. This will have a small window with a heart near the top.
Finally, we’ll end up with some round shapes for some delicious plants at the base of the house. These will wrap up our last detail, but feel free to add any of your own!
You can paint your favorite candies on this house or add some Christmas decorations just for a few festive ideas.
Step 6 – Complete your gingerbread house drawing with some colors
Your drawing of the gingerbread house is almost done and all you need is some pretty colors to really complete it.
We’ve already shown you some of the colors we’ll be using in our reference image, but you should take this opportunity to use whatever color you love to finish it off. The more bright and cheerful colors you can incorporate into this image, the better!
You can also use your favorite art mediums to create as bright or subtle colors as you like and this is a great way to paint your own picture.
