How to Draw Bacteria

Please see the drawing tutorial in the video below

You can refer to the simple step-by-step drawing guide below

Step 1

We’ll keep things nice and simple for this first part of your bacterial drawing.

In this tutorial we will draw 3 different shapes to represent the amazing variety displayed with the bacterial shapes.

The first one will be the easier of the three to ease you through the process! This first one will be shaped a bit like a long pea, as shown in our reference image.

For now, the first bacteria may look simple, but we’ll add some more detail to it in one of the final steps of this tutorial.

Now, we can move on to the second step of the tutorial to start the next step.

Step 2 – Draw the head of the next bacteria

The second bacterium we will draw will be a bit more complicated than the previous one you drew.

For that reason, we will separate it into two parts for this and the next step of this tutorial on how to draw bacteria.

This next shape is round, but it has a lot of small, pointed protrusions.

To make things easier, we suggest you take crayons and draw a circle. This will make it easier for you to start drawing the final shape.

Then use your pen to add small overhangs and then draw a circular outline between them. Once you’ve drawn this first half, we can then move on to the second half in the next step.

Step 3 – Now let’s finish the second half of the bacteria

You can now complete the second organism of this bacterial drawing in this third step.

You did a great job in the first half of the previous step, and in this part you will finish the other half. To do this, just copy what you did in the previous step.

This would also be much easier if you had drawn the circle with that pencil to guide you! If you drew the circle with that pencil, you can erase any remaining pencil lines from the drawing after completing this step.

Then it will be time for step 4 of the tutorial!

Step 4 – Add the final bacteria to the drawing

Before you add some final details in the next step of this bacteria tutorial, we have one final organism to add.

This should also be pretty straightforward, as shown in the reference image. This one will look a bit like a tadpole.

That means it will have a long and round body with a small thin tail on the left hand side.

Once you’ve completed the final creature of this arrangement, we’ll be able to move on to the next step where we’ll add the last details we mentioned.

Step 5 – Now you can add the final details

You’ve added the main contours to this bacteria drawing, and in this step of the tutorial you can add some final little details.

You’ll also be able to add some of your own accents and details! Before that, we will go back to the first creature you drew in the previous step to add some small details to it.

As shown in the reference image, this will have some small pins sticking out of the border. These are a simple detail to add, but they are effective in making the creature look more distinct!

Once you’ve drawn these little legs, you can then add your own final touches. Bacteria are often really numerous, so one idea would be to attract more bacteria to go along with these bacteria.

You can create more using the same shapes, or you can also create some unique ones of your own!

Step 6 – Complete your bacteria drawing with some colors

Now it’s time to color these creatures in a fun way in the final step of this bacteria drawing tutorial! We’ve shown you some of the colors you can use in our example images.

We use some shades of blue for the big bust, and then we use red for the big bust. Finally, we use purple for the little tadpole creature.

These are just some of the colors you can use for this image!

Any color you love will work perfectly for this painting, so make sure to choose any colors and art mediums that you think will suit these microbes.
