You can refer to the simple step-by-step drawing guide below

Step 1

Without the glass ball, the snowball would just spill water and fake snow all over the place! We don’t want that, so for the first step of our snowball tutorial, we’ll start with the glass sphere itself.

This will be a near-perfect circle, so to make things easier for yourself you can start by using a drawing compass and pencil to draw a perfect circle.

Then using your pen you can go through the lines. However, instead of drawing a perfect circle, we’ll draw a fairly flat base for the globe.

If you used this method, then you can erase your pencil lines before we move on to step 2!

Step 2 – Now draw the base of the snowball

We’ve already covered how without a glass ball, a snowball would just be a big mess! Likewise, the snowball needs a base to make sure the globe doesn’t roll everywhere.

That base is what we’ll be adding to your snowball drawing in this second step.

First, draw a thin border on the flat bottom of the globe. Then extend some short, slightly curved lines down from the edges of this rim.

Finally, add another rim at the bottom of the base by drawing some more curves.

Step 3 – Draw the scene inside the snowball

Every big snowball needs a nice little scene inside the globe, and this is what we’ll start adding in this third step of the snowball tutorial.

This is an element where you can also design your own scene, but in our design we will draw a charming little house with some pine trees.

First, use a wavy line for the snowy ground near the base of the globe. Then we will draw the first pine tree. The tree will be drawn into many pointed, triangular parts.

Each section will get a little wider as you move down, and each section will also have a thin rim at the bottom. Finish by drawing a thin body at the base of the tree, then we can move on to step 4.

Step 4 – Next, draw another tree for the scene

So far, you’ve created a tree for the scene in this snowball drawing, but we’ll be adding another tree along with some smaller details in this fourth step.

Just duplicate exactly what you did in the previous step to add a pine tree on the left hand side.

Once the second tree has been added, we will draw some smaller details.

To do this, add some line detail to different parts of the snowball base as well as to the trees themselves. This will help make these aspects look more textured.

Then you’ll be ready for some final and detailed elements in the next step of the tutorial!

Step 5 – Add the final details to your snowball drawing

Now you are ready to finalize the details before we move on to the final step of this tutorial on how to draw a snowball!

First, we will draw a small snowman that will stand in front of the house. Talking about the house, we will also draw it now.

The house will have a thick, snow-covered roof and a small chimney.

After the house is drawn, we will add fake snow. You can describe snow by drawing some small circles inside the globe.

In the next step, we will discuss not only colors but also some creative ways you can depict snow!

Step 6 – Finish your snowball drawing in color

In the previous step of how to draw a snowball, we mentioned that we were going to discuss some creative ways you can depict snow.

One way is to use some drops of thick acrylic paint to give the snow a little more depth.

Another way you can do it is to stick some small white beads or glitter on the image. What other way can you think of to describe snow?

Then you can have fun adding some cozy colors to the rest of the image. We would recommend some watercolor paints for a softer look, but what would you choose to finish it off?
