You can refer to the simple step-by-step drawing guide below

Step 1

Despite the fact that the phoenix is a very unusual bird, we will draw it using the way of drawing an ordinary bird. So, first draw the head in the form of a circle and the body in the form of a pea. Then, using simple lines outline the wings and legs.

Step 2

Now we add some general details. Draw the outline of the beak and eyes on the head. Next make the neck and legs thicker. Outline the feathers of the wings and long tail.

Step 3

Removing all unnecessary guides from the head, we draw the hooked beak, the outline of the head and the frowning eyes. Notice that our phoenix’s head is very similar to the head of a bald eagle.

Step 4

In this step, we’ll be drawing something that no normal bird doesn’t have – flames rising above our phoenix’s head. The flame should be drawn with twisted lines of different lengths.

Step 5

Pull out the feathers. Draw the bottom row of feathers first, it should be longer than the rest. In the same step, draw the neck.

Step 6

Continue the lesson on how to draw a phoenix. Erase all unnecessary guide lines from the torso and draw the legs and long fingers with sharp claws.

Step 7

We are almost done drawing the phoenix. Use slightly curved and clear lines to draw the long tail feathers.

Step 8

To make our phoenix more realistic, we need to add shadows. Use classic shading for shading like in our example.

The drawing of a phoenix is ready. Using this drawing lesson you will be able to draw not only a phoenix but also any other bird. Also you can add some flames to the tail or wings. Visit our “Myths and Legends” category to learn to draw elves, trolls, dwarves and many other fantasy characters.
