You can refer to the simple step-by-step drawing guide below
Step 1
To start this bed tutorial, we’ll start with the base of the bed.
This will have two square posts at the ends, and you can use a ruler to make sure their edges are perfectly straight.
You can also add some notches to them to make them look as if they are made of wood.
Then we will add the wood between these pillars. You can use a straight line for the base of this midsection, and then use some curved lines for the top edges.
You can also add some small notches to them for a wooden effect. Then you’ll be ready for step 2 of the tutorial!
Step 2 – Now, paint some texture effects for the foot of the bed
For the next part of your bed drawing, we’ll add more wood texture to the base of the bed. To start, we will draw a shape inside the flat center of the foot.
This shape will have some straight edges and a base, and the top will be curved. This will make it similar in shape to this part of the bed in general.
After this outline is drawn, we will then create the effect of wooden boards nailed together.
Simply draw some horizontal lines quite close together, and then add some small vertical lines.
Finish by drawing some dots for the nails holding the planks together before you move on to step 3 of the tutorial.
Step 3 – Start drawing the middle of the bed
The base of the bed is already drawn, so now we can start drawing the middle in this step of the how to draw the bed tutorial.
Use some curved lines for the sides of the blanket that is covering the bed, and these will also form the outline of the overall middle.
These lines should be drawn freely with a bit of elegance to them, as it is meant to look as if it were made of fabric.
Then draw some more curves at the end so that the blanket folds on its own.
Finish this step by adding some wavy lines inside the border of the quilt for more of a pleated texture, and then we can move on.
Step 4 – Next, draw some pillows and footboards
Now you are ready to add some pillows and base to your bed drawing in this next step. First, draw a line along the base of the blanket where the quilt ends and that will be the wooden base.
Next, draw another thin wooden post on the other side of the bed. This shape will look very similar to the ones you drew at the foot of the bed.
Finally, finish by adding a few soft pillows near the headboard. Then you’ll be ready for the final details and elements in the next step of the tutorial.
Step 5 – Add the final details to your bed drawing
You’re almost ready to add some color to your drawing, but first we’ll finalize the details and final elements.
First, draw another wooden pole on the left hand side of the headboard. Then connect the posts on the sides using some curved lines, and then add some more wooden elements.
Once you’ve added these final details, you’re ready for the final step! Before continuing, you can add some details of your own to the image.
One idea is to draw the bedroom area around this bed, or maybe add some plushies or fancy pillows to sit on.
These are just a few ideas, but what else can you think of to end it?
Step 6 – Finish your bed painting with color
For the final part of your bed painting, you can finish it off with some color! In our reference image, we showed you how we would color this image.
We used some red, blue and purple for the blanket, pillow and mattress and some brown for the wooden sides.
However, these are just some of the colors you can choose from! In your own drawing, you should feel free to use whatever color or art medium you think best suits the image.
How would you bring this painting to life with color?
