Step 1
The first step to drawing a carnation is to create two horns for the base of the flower. Next draw some trunk lines.
Step 2
Sketch the pods on which the flowers actually lie and grow, and remember to draw the hanging caps and the leaves on the pods the same way.
Step 3
Instead of jumping right in to plant the carnations, I want to take care of the stems and leaves first. Do this by drawing out the thick stems and then sketching two leaves.
Step 4
The pedals of a carnation are very dense but in this photo they appear loose and separate. I want you to draw some pedals that will form a pattern-like loop around the flowers. The edges of each pedal should be drawn with serrated strokes. When done, you can move on to step five.
Step 5
Continue to fill in the shell with some of the same rough pedals, and remember to draw your carnation neatly so people can see what kind of flower you just drew. Clean up the drawing by erasing the lines and shapes you created in step one.
Step 6
This is what your two flowers will appear when you’re done. You can now choose a shade to color your new carnation. Thank you for joining me with this great lesson on how to draw carnations.
