Step 1
When drawing a pattern like a leopard, it may look complicated but it can be done by creating many small shapes.
For that reason, we’ll be taking it slow in this tutorial on how to draw cheetah! To start, we will start with a small part of the spot pattern.
As you can see in our reference image, these small spots will be quite varied. Most of them will be drawn as thin, irregular ovals.
Some of these will be completely filled with black, while some will have some small holes in them. For this part, the shapes will be a bit smaller and more solid.
After you have it the way you want it, then you are ready for step 2!
Step 2 – Draw some more patterns
For this step of your cheetah print, we’ll go further inwards to create the design.
As they move inward more, the spots get a little larger. Some of them will also have some white spots inside or a gap on the side.
However, there is no wrong way to do this and as long as you keep it consistent you can change the design a bit!
Step 3 – Continue to expand the design in this step
You’re starting to get the hang of it now, so you should have no problem with the next few steps of this tutorial on how to draw cheetah.
These subsequent points will continue into the center of the pattern, and these will also be relatively large compared to the points you drew in the first step.
They will also have some white spots inside in many places, as you can see in the reference image.
Step 4 – Now draw the extended design upwards
We’re going to change the direction a bit for this part of your cheetah print. These will move upwards and when they do, they will start to get a little smaller like the ones in the first step.
If you draw the cheetah’s face and neck later, these shapes will extend up to the neck.
Step 5 – Draw some final points
This step of our cheetah print tutorial will help you draw the top points of the spots.
These will be closest to the cheetah’s face, and for that reason, they will be the smallest on the cheetah.
These final points will look like thick pen dots that cover the empty space of the face. You can always add more points or take out some if you like, since this is your drawing!
Once you’re satisfied with the number of positions you have, move on to the last few steps.
Step 6 – Now draw the face outline for the cheetah
The last part of your cheetah print is a bit more optional, as it involves drawing the cheetah’s face with these spots.
We have already shown you how you can draw a cheetah face, so if you want to add it you can carefully follow the image to create a cheetah majestic face.
However, here is one way you can complete this drawing. You can also incorporate this template into another drawing and there are many options for this!
Maybe you can design a fancy dress with this pattern or create a bed sheet with a design to unleash your interior design.
These are just a few ideas, but what creative way would you go to complete your amazing leopard print?
Step 7 – Finish your cheetah print with some colors
Now that you’ve finished drawing the points and patterns, it’s time for the final fun step of the leopard drawing tutorial.
That means you can pull out your favorite art mediums and tools to add some pretty color to your paintings!
In our reference image, we showed you the actual leopard colors you can use, but you don’t have to if you want a more stylish look.
You can combine your favorite bright colors for some fun designs using this cheetah print!
Then you can experiment with some awesome art media like paint crayons and markers or any other medium you love for some incredible color variations.
