Step 1
Wreaths usually have a pretty bow attached to them, and for that reason, we’ll draw one of these in the first step of our wreath tutorial! To draw this bow, we will first start with a small circle in its center.
Then we’ll draw the large edges of the bow coming out from this center section. These side sections will be large and drawn with some more rounded lines to give them shape.
You can then draw some simple line details on them to make them look as if they were made of fabric.
Finally, we’ll draw some large, circular strands that drop down from the bow. Then we can move on to step 2!
Step 2 – Next, start drawing the garland itself
Now that you’ve drawn the bow for this arrangement, we can next start with the wreath itself in this part of your wreath drawing.
The outline of the wreath will be drawn with several interconnected bumpy shapes. This will make it look as if the wreath is made of many different leaves and branches.
For now, we will only draw the part of the wreath on the top right side of the bow that you drew in the previous step.
After the sketch is drawn, you can add some large and small circles to it to decorate some beads and trinkets. You can also add some contouring to the needles poking out of it.
Step 3 – Draw some more garlands
For this third part of the garland tutorial, we’ll add some more details to the garland.
To do this, we’ll extend what you started with in the previous step to create the part that will form the upper right side of the wreath.
Again, this part will be drawn with some bumpy lines for the outline. Then you can again add rows of small circles for some bead details and paint some larger circular baubles.
That should do for now, so move on to step 4!
Step 4 – Now, draw the next part of the wreath
You are doing a great job drawing this wreath! You’re really getting to grips with garland drawing, and in the next few steps we’ll be finishing up the final pieces.
We’ll be adding a sizable portion of the garland in this step and it will expand all around leaving only a small portion of the bottom left exposed.
This is the gap that will be filled in in the next step along with some final touches and details.
Step 5 – Add some final details to your wreath drawing
This step of our garland tutorial will help you finish the last part.
This should be pretty straightforward, as all you need to do is keep stretching the wreath exactly as you did in the last few steps until it’s filled.
Once you’ve finished the wreath, you can also add some details of your own! They can range from several decorative elements to a wonderful festive background.
This is your chance to stretch those creative muscles, so make sure you have fun working on it!
Step 6 – Finish your wreath drawing with some colors
Now it’s time to finish this wreath drawing with some awesome festive colors! We’ve shown you a way you can color in this drawing in our reference image.
We used several Christmassy colors to complete it, and these include some dark blue for the garland, red and pink for the bow and many more for the decorations.
These are the colors we thought would look great for this image, but for this step you can really put some personality in there with the colors of your choice!
You can pick up some more classic Christmas colors by using some silver and gold along with some brighter reds and golds.
Then you can also achieve the colors you want with the art mediums of your choice. Artistic media like acrylic paints and watercolors can be great for pictures like these, but crayons and markers can work just as well! What do you think would fit this image best?
