You can refer to the simple step-by-step drawing guide below

Step 1:

First, draw the head and face. Stegosaurus had a long, small, flat head, almost like a turtle. Keep in mind the body will be a lot bigger.

Step 2:

Draw the body and the bone plates. The neck will extend beyond the back of the small head and emerge as a large bump. From the neck back, draw a row of pointed triangles, shaped very much like shark teeth. They would start out very small and get much larger along the back of the stegosaurus.

Step 3:

Draw the front legs. Because of its shape, they must have been sturdy, short, elephant-like legs.

Step 4:

Draw the hind legs. They look similar to the front, but the thighs start much higher on the stegosaurus’ body and flex more with them, right at the knees.

Step 5:

Draw the tail and the bones. The tail slopes down from the back of the body similar to how the neck slopes up, but it is thinner. The panels will be reduced in size compared to the largest panels on the back. Draw a series of four spikes at the end of the tail, which the stegosaurus used as a weapon.

Interesting facts about STEGOSAURUS

Stegosaurus is a member of the group of dinosaurs and the scientific term for them is S. armatus. Their Greek name “stego-saurus” means “roof lizard” in English. The word “armatus” in Latin means “armor” in English, because this animal has a protective frame in its skeleton. They have special spines and backs to protect them from predators. Because they have short arms, arched backs, making the small head low to the ground and the large tail can swing strongly.
