You can refer to the simple step-by-step drawing guide below

Step 1

Here is a sketch of the many different dog heads you can choose from when you want to sketch a realistic dog. Note that there are also many different positions you can get your dog to look at or stand in.

Step 2

Here is a great sketch of the different views of peach eyes. Check out this diagram, to get an idea of how to add shadows and color when detailing a realistic dog’s eyes.

Step 3

Now we will start drawing the German Shepherd. This is the variety I chose to make a realistic sketch. The sketch is very simple and basic with just a little touch of detail. Start by drawing the head, and then outline the shape of the neck. You will then draw or join those neck lines into an egg shape that will be used for the upper body. Finally, add the rear end and move on to the next step.

Step 4

This is where you’ll start outlining the shape of the German’s ears, then the size and structure of the head, muzzle, and jaw. As you can see, this realistic dog has a protruding tongue.

Step 5

Start outlining the shape of the body, including the back, neck, chest, and front leg line.

Step 6

Well, see how far you’ve come with this tutorial. What you can do now is outline the rest of the front legs and feet, then outline the belly and back legs like that. The trunk of the German Shepherd dog should be a bit hairy.

Step 7

This is what your GSD looks like before you start perfecting him/her. This will be your final drawing step, so what you will do first is outline the hind legs and bushy tail. Add some detail to the front legs, and then outline the fur lining around the back of the neck. Erase the lines and shapes that you drew in step one.

Step 8

When you’re done, your drawing should appear like the one you see here. Add darker shadows on the muzzle, along the back, and on the forehead and top of the ears. I hope you learned how to draw a realistic dog, step by step.

Step 9

I see that a lot of people have asked me to do a tutorial on the dog featured in the main image. To begin this step, draw basic guides that support the head.

Step 10

Draw eyes and nose for this cute little dog. Then move on to the next step.

Step 11

Here you will finish the nose part and start sculpting the rest of the face. Follow the instructions, it will help a lot!

Step 12

Sketch the markers and you’re done! There is no line art for this one, the finished image should be the main image above. I hope you enjoy this, thanks for visiting!
