Step 1
This will be a wicked pleasure to watch and watch. Start by drawing three sets of horizontal lines for your ocean floor. Then you would draw the mountain like the mound you see here and then draw a small circle. Once done, draw the guides for the different types of coral you will be drawing.
Step 2
You will start by drawing the legs and/or tentacles of the octopus. Once done, you can move to the right side and start sketching the shape of your first coral in this reef. I chose to draw the tubular coral, because it reminded me of SpongeBob’s whereabouts.
Step 3
You should now finish sketching the tube coral and start drawing the bamboo like the coral you see just below the tube coral. Once done, you can start sketching the top of the ocean floor by adding some rocks and details to the sand or surface.
Step 4
As you can see your reefs come together beautifully. What you will do now is draw the shape of the mountain rock, then add some sea creatures to it like starfish and various corals. You can paint some spongy corals, or different cup corals if you like. Once done, draw the long shape of the seagrass as you see in the background.
Step 5
In this step you’ll start out sketching the head and face of the cute octopus you see here. Next, draw more foliage under the water as well as add some details on the bottom of the ocean. Once you are done here, you can move on to the next and final drawing step to complete your reef drawing.
Step 6
I know I said this is your last step, but I have to say it to help you go further without hesitation XD. You should now finish drawing the right tube coral you see, then add some detail and definition to the ocean floor and mound in the bottom right corner. Once done, you can continue with the final drawing step.
Step 7
All you will be doing here is detailing the tube coral and drawing a cute little fish. You can start erasing all the principles and shapes that you drew in step one to clean up your ocean.
Step 8
You have now learned “how to draw a coral reef”. Color it using vibrating shades, and that’s it. You’ve done a great job, and now you can hang your reef on the wall or stick it in your aquarium to use as a neat background for your fish.
