Please see the drawing tutorial in the video below

You can refer to the simple step-by-step drawing guide below

Step 1

For the first step of our tutorial on how to draw a pirate ship, we’re going to start from scratch, literally! We will be drawing the top of the fore mast and the sails for the ship in this section, and you can start with a thin horizontal shape for the top of the mast.

The sail will then be drawn using some curves going down from that mast, and then you can draw a small flag on top of the mast.

Then we’ll draw some lines down from the masts that will form the rig for the ship. Try to position these lines as they are

Step 2 – Next, draw some more sails of the ship

We will add some more sails to your pirate ship drawing in this step. You can draw them using three triangles with some curved sides for these sails.

The sails will attach to the mast at the top, while the bottom of the sails will connect to the truss line you drew in the previous step.

We’ll also add some detail to the sails by drawing some rips and rips on the fabric. Pirate ships don’t always have the luxury of being ported for repairs, so they often have to make do with what they have!

Once you’ve drawn these, you can add a few more lines for some extra cheats on board. Then you are ready for step 3!

Step 3 – Now draw more sails and start the front of the ship

Time to add more sails and ship front in this step of our how to draw a pirate ship tutorial. First, we’ll start with the front part of the ship (or the bow part known as the navigator.)

You can use some straight lines for the tip of the ship and these will turn into some curves towards the water.

We will then add a sail much larger and squarer than the ones you drew earlier, and then finish this step by drawing the central mast.

This mast will also have a smaller sail on it, and the larger mast will have more tearing details.

Step 4 – Next, draw another large sail and crow’s nest

The crow’s nest is a small basket-like structure on the top of a ship’s mast that can be seen by an observer.

We’ll add that to your pirate ship drawing right now, and on top of that you can add a small flowing flag.

Then you can add another large and square mast near the center of the ship. This will also have a straight mast on top of it.

You can finish this step by adding a horizontal, slightly curved line for the deck.

Once you’ve added all of these elements, you’ll be ready to add the final details in the next step before adding some color to the picture.

Step 5 – Now, complete your pirate ship drawing

Step 5 of this how to draw a pirate ship tutorial will be all about perfecting the final details and elements of the ship.

First, you can start by drawing a large skull and crossbones on the largest sail on the ship. That way no one will mistake who is in charge of this ship!

Then you can use some curves to create the rest of the hull.

This body can then be perfected by drawing some small circles and line details over it to really make it look great.

Once all of this has been drawn, you can also paint the background to show the seas this ship is sailing through, or maybe even paint some inclement weather for it to navigate. We can’t wait to see what you choose to draw!

Step 6 – Finish your pirate ship drawing with some colors

In our reference image, we used some brown for the ship while giving it some black and white sails.

Here’s a set of colors you can use, but feel free to use any color you want for your own pirate ship drawing!

This is a step where you can really get creative with it to see what you come up with. You can also experiment with a variety of art media and color combinations and variations to really make the colors pop on the page.
