You can refer to the simple step-by-step drawing guide below

Step 1

The image that we will create in this sunrise tutorial will depict a calm and beautiful view of the ocean.

There will be some details and other elements that we will draw throughout the tutorial, but for now we will focus on the sea itself.

This will be a pretty simple element to draw, as all we’ll be doing is drawing some horizontally wavy, curved lines across the page.

Once they’re drawn, you’ll be ready to add more details in the next steps.

Step 2 – Next, draw a small boat in the sea

Continuing with this drawing of the rising sun, we will draw a small sailboat into the scene.

For now we will focus on the bottom of this boat and you can draw it using curved lines that connect.

These lines will form three thin shapes to make it look as if this part of the boat is made of wood.

That will take care of the base of the boat, and we’ll be sure to add a sail to finish it off in the next part of the tutorial.

Step 3 – Draw the sails for the boat in this next step

As we mentioned in the previous step of the tutorial on how to draw a sunrise, we will now complete the sail for the boat you started with in the previous section.

You can start this by drawing a line at a slight diagonal angle that rises from near the center of the boat.

This will form the center mast of the boat and you can also draw a small flag on top of it.

With this mast drawn, you will then be ready to paint the panels of the sail. Using some curves, you can draw two triangular sails in front of the boat.

A straight line can also be drawn from the top of the center mast to the top of one of these panels.

Finally, using some more curves, you can draw two more sails on the back of the boat. The top image will be slightly smaller, while the bottom image will be large and slightly square.

Step 4 – Now draw some more scenes

We’ll be adding quite a bit to your sunrise drawing in this next step. First, let’s start by drawing a small island in the sea using some more curved lines.

Then we’ll paint some palm trees sticking out of the island. We will also add some grass detail along with some wavy lines to show some sand detail.

Finally, we will draw the horizon line. You can do this by drawing a line across the entire width of the image. This line will go behind the ship as well as the trunks of the palm trees.

You can then draw a circle on this horizon and also partially obscure the sun by the trees. Finish by drawing some detailed lines on the water below this sun.

Step 5 – Add some final details to your sunrise drawing

Images like these are made with details, so we’ll add some final touches to really round out this image in this step of the sunrise tutorial.

We are going to add some brilliant rays from the sun, and you can do this by drawing some lines from the round sun.

To really complete this idyllic image, you could finish by drawing two puffy clouds in the sky. That will wrap up all of our details, but you can also add some of your own that you might want.

What else would you like to add to this beautiful scene to make it a sunrise paradise?

Step 6 – Complete your sunrise drawing with some colors

Now we have come to the final step of your sunrise painting, and in this step we will finish by coloring your beautiful painting.

Dawn is usually a bright and cheerful time of the day, and in our reference image we tried to recreate that feeling.

We used some bright blues and yellows for the water, sun and sky. We even incorporated some yellow into the water below the sun to show that it was reflecting.

Some green and brown on the island also really helps complete this photo in style.

You can use colors similar to the ones we did, but you should also use any other color choices you might want! What colors, shades, artistic mediums and techniques will you use to complete this painting?

Your Sunrise drawing is done!

There are few sights more breathtaking than watching a beautiful sunrise, so we hope it’s a fun and satisfying experience recreating it in this sunrise tutorial!

We’ve put a lot of detail into this picture, and while it might make it a bit more difficult to draw, it’s definitely worth it, as they help bring the picture to life. .

This tutorial leaves the door open for you to add some personal touches of your own, so what do you think would go well with this photo?
