You can refer to the simple step-by-step drawing guide below

Step 1

Are you ready to draw an amazing realistic lion? Well, start with a circle for the head, and then add another circle for the muzzle. You will also need to outline the shape of the lion’s large mane, and then the facial guidelines.

Step 2

With a light touch, start sketching the mouth, nose and life for the lion face. Then you’ll also add a head liner for the eyes.

Step 3

Now the lesson begins to turn in a great way. What you will do now is start sketching the realistic frame of the actual lion face starting from the forehead, cheeks and chin. When you’re done, you can add the tip of the nose, and then color in the mouth area to add depth. Finish drawing the eyes, and then add some hair detail to add texture to the lion’s mane and fur.

Step 4

You will start adding some real details to the face to help the lion look realistic, majestic and most importantly, like a king. Fill in the white areas in the lion’s eyes, then draw some whiskers and beard holes.

Step 5

Now you can start sketching one of the main parts of the lion shape, the mane. You should outline the mane with soft, thick strokes. This will add some bold edges and realistic hair. Once done, you can add some small accents to increase the realism.

Step 6

For the last step, all you need to do is add a drop shadow. But before you do that, you must erase the lines and shapes that you drew in step one. If you look at this step, you will see that the shading is done layer by layer. This not only adds texture to the mane, but also gives the lion a full body haircut. Also add some shading on the sides of the nose, and then add some color inside the nostrils.

Step 7

When you’re all done, you’ll have a realistic sketch like the one you see here. If you want, you can color this lion, or leave it how you see.
