How to Draw M&Ms

Please see the drawing tutorial in the video below

You can refer to the simple step by step drawing guide below

  1. Gather your materials: You’ll need paper, a pencil, eraser, and colored pencils or markers in various shades of brown, red, blue, green, orange, and yellow.
  2. Sketch the basic shape: Start by lightly sketching the basic shape of an M&M, which is slightly oval with rounded edges. You can vary the size and shape slightly to create different M&Ms.
  3. Add the M&M’s logo: In the center of your M&M, lightly sketch the lowercase letter “m” in a bold, sans-serif font. This is the iconic M&M’s logo. Make sure it’s centered and proportional to the size of your M&M.
  4. Outline the shape: Once you’re happy with the basic shape and logo placement, go over your sketch with a darker pencil or pen to outline the M&M’s shape and the logo. This will define the edges and details.
  5. Add shading and highlights: Use your colored pencils or markers to add shading and highlights to your M&M. Start by filling in the base color of the M&M, using a lighter shade around the edges to create dimension. Then, add darker shades to the bottom and sides of the M&M to create shadows. Finally, add highlights with a lighter shade to areas where light would naturally hit the M&M, such as the top and sides opposite the shadows.
  6. Blend and refine: Use your pencil or a blending tool to blend the colors together and smooth out any harsh lines. Take your time with this step to achieve a realistic, smooth finish.
  7. Add texture: To make your M&Ms look even more realistic, you can add texture to the candy shell. Use small, circular strokes with your colored pencils or markers to create a speckled texture on the surface of the M&M.
  8. Final touches: Once you’re happy with your drawing, go over it one last time to refine any details and make any necessary adjustments. Erase any stray lines or smudges, and add any final touches to enhance the realism of your drawing.
  9. Optional: You can draw multiple M&Ms of different colors and arrange them together in a composition for a more dynamic drawing.
