You can refer to the simple step-by-step drawing guide below

Step 1

Like all first steps, you’ll need some basic instruction to assist you in your drawing task. As you can see here, all you have to do is draw a circle, and then outline in the face guides.

Step 2

Simply draw out the shape of the lion’s nose and don’t forget to include the details as well as the nostrils.

Step 3

Slowly begin to outline the lion’s snout and notice how the skin wrinkles on the snout. This usually happens to any roaring animal like tiger, dog, cat, wolf, etc. Once the wrinkles and folds have been outlined, move on to step two.

Step 4

Before moving on to the teeth, you’ll need to outline the whiskers like all cats and big cats have. Once done, you can draw the fangs and front row of teeth. Try to make sure that the teeth will align slightly but not perfectly.

Step 5

For step five, we will make the mouth and/or jaw drawn inward. Start just below the left lip and start sketching down, around and back onto the other lip. Note that there are slight curves along the way, but just continue to see this step as a reference. Draw the gum line and then outline the detail for the surface or texture of the tongue. Before you leave this step, you will have to draw the bottom canine and the bottom row of teeth.

Step 6

Now you will need to work on drawing the outline of the lion’s head and jaw. The sides of the face have a lot of hair because as you know the lion is full of fluff. Make sure you’ve sketched out the chin fluff like that, and move on to the next step.

Step 7

To make things easy for all of you beginner artists, I went ahead and just made the task of drawing the end of the mane. Instead, the frame for the lion will be in the form or mane running off the page. Sketch out the ears, as well as detail their insides, and then use the facial guides to draw the beaded eyes. Eyeliner should be thick for added intensity. Draw the same lines above the eyebrows and between the eyes. You must clean up your drawing before sketching the hair lines for the lion’s mane.

Step 8

You’ve finished drawing a roaring lion, which means you can start coloring in your work. Have a great day and don’t forget to submit your finished artwork if you can.
